The etymology of the name SoomSoom is Hebraic and it means sesame seeds.

What is Falafel?
Our falafel is a healthy vegetarian ball that is made of ground chickpeas, fresh parsley, fresh cilantro, fresh garlic, and eight other spices in a unique and secret combination. At SoomSoom vegetarian bar we are 100% natural, we use ingredients without artificial flavor, colorants, chemicals, or preservatives.

Where did it start?
Everything started with a 101-year-old falafel recipe, 5768 miles from New York City, in the old city of Tiberius by the waters of the sacred Sea of Galilee. The falafel recipe was passed down from generation to generation, and transmitted from father to son as a secret recipe. The recipe was never used commercially as it was exclusively for the delights of the family and their guests.
In 1953, my grandfather decided to open the first SoomSoom restaurant in Tiberias using our family falafel secret recipe. Finally it was made public and every customer could enjoy the taste of our family secret.
Shlomi, the owner of SoomSoom represents the tenth generation of a 400 years old family that never left the city of Tiberius in the holy land of Israel. When he moved to NYC, he opened his first restaurant abroad in New York, to bring the refined, high-end and delicious taste of his family’s Falafel, Humus and Sabih to you: residents, tourists and admirers of this amazing city.
Why eat Kosher food?
Kosher food means healthier and cleaner food. Food is certified Kosher after going through a very careful and meticulous process. This process consists of a careful monitoring of the food, its cleaning and rinsing, as well as the vessels where the food is made and kept.
An outside institution supervises this very careful practice, as they daily send an employee that makes sure that the foods and the vessels are perfectly clean.

Why is SoomSoom healthy?
Chickpeas: also known as Garbanzo beans are a very good source of folic acid, fiber and other minerals such as iron, copper, zinc and magnesium. Chickpeas are an amazing source of protein that can help lower cholesterol and improves blood sugar levels.
Chickpeas are a low-fat food with outstanding health benefits; it is very good for diabetics and people diagnosed with high cholesterol.
Tahini: is a paste made entirely of ground sesame seeds. Sesame seeds are extremely rich in minerals like copper and a very good source of calcium, magnesium, iron, phosphorus, vitamin B1, zinc and dietary fiber. Sesamin is a unique substance in sesame seeds that had been found to protect the liver from oxidative damages.
Sesame seeds are great substitution for people who avoid dairy products in their diets: besides being a very good source of calcium and vitamins, sesame is a great antioxidant that lowers cholesterol.

We do like to brag about the healthy benefits of our salad bar as it contains an assortment of the freshest vegetables and dressings:
Fresh tomatoes, carrots, cucumbers, cilantro, parsley, eggplants, turnips, broccoli, bulgur, beets, lemon, cabbages, celery, onions, garlic, Kohlrabis (German turnip) and more.
All the salads are as a fresh as it gets: we receive our supply every morning and make everything fresh every day.
